iOS Developer

I can provide iOS Development services to turn your idea into an App. Experience with full stack using Swift, Python, MongoDB & GCP/AWS I can work alone, integrate with an existing team or help build a team as the app is developed. Also proficient at debugging issues & extending existing apps.

I build native iOS apps in Swift, and I've taken them from an idea on a whiteboard to the App Store, through tens of thousands of users, and on to an acquisition. I also build the backend behind the app, so you get one developer who can own the whole product, not just the screens.

Who this is for

  • Founders with an app idea who need it built properly the first time, ready to show investors and real users.
  • Startups whose web or cross-platform prototype has hit its limits and needs a native iOS app.
  • Teams that need an experienced iOS developer to join for a launch, a rebuild or a hard feature.
  • Companies with an existing app that's buggy, slow or hard to extend, and needs someone to find out why.

What I do

Native iOS in Swift and SwiftUI. I build apps that feel like they belong on the iPhone: fast, smooth and well behaved. That includes the hard parts, such as video upload and playback, real-time audio, and animation that keeps time with it.

The backend too. Most apps need more than the app. I build the APIs in Python (Flask or FastAPI) on MongoDB, and the cloud infrastructure on AWS or Google Cloud, including video processing with S3, Lambda and MediaConvert.

Design to code. I work from Figma, and I can design screens myself when there's no designer yet. Every screen is built against the design, not approximated.

Debugging and extending existing apps. I'm comfortable stepping into someone else's codebase, tracking down crashes and performance problems, and adding features without breaking what's there.

Getting it shipped. TestFlight, App Store submission and review, and releases that keep going after launch.

How it has worked before

At Dancefight I was contracted to build an iOS prototype that would interest investors. It launched in 2020, became the home of the street dance community, and I stayed on as CTO and iOS lead until the company was acquired by ARIA Ventures in 2025.

At TopThis the first version was a web app that couldn't deliver the performance the product needed. Our team rebuilt it as native apps; I lead development on the iOS app and the AWS backend behind its video uploads, leaderboards and competitions.

My Guitar Metronome app is a smaller example of the craft: designed in Figma first, built in SwiftUI, with its timing driven by the audio hardware's own clock so it never drifts. The same technique now drives an animation in the TopThis app.

How we'd work together

I can build your app on my own, join your existing team, or help you hire and lead a team as the product grows. Work is remote, usually a few days a week or full time for a fixed stretch such as a launch.

We agree what's being built and what done looks like, and the price reflects the scope and the time it will take. A first conversation is free: tell me about the app and I'll give you an honest view of how I'd build it.
